I didn't mean to, but I did mistakenly toss my Census form in the trash. And now that our government and political officials are urging me to return the form, I'm feeling a little guilty.
Even Gov. Steve Beshear is devoting his weekly video commentary to the Census, telling us how important it is. He claims it's not just a bunch of number crunching for stat-heads, but that the information gathered is used to decide where to build schools, roads and make other big-money decisions.
I'm not really buying it, though, and I don't think the humongous advertising campaign is going to be effective at getting regular folks to fill out the form. So I know that whatever information the Census pulls will be suspect.
But here's something I found on the Internets that really bothers me --
"Taxpayers are footing the bill of $14.7 billion for 10 years of Census counting. That price tag supports 500 local offices and a peak staff of 1.4 million workers."
Ouch. All that for a bunch of numbers that won't be complete. Oh, well. If I get another form, I just might send it in.
you know, i almost blogged about this earlier this week b/c it boggles my mind why anyone WOULDN'T turn in their census form. it's to be counted. It decides how much money for roads, schools, etc. we get. by NOT sending it in you hurt only yourself and your neighbors.
i don't mean you specifically, but really? is it THAT big a deal? i cannot believe that a little less than half of the people in this country haven't filled out the form and sent it in. why not? i don't get it. it helps those who govern and hand out money do just that.
so the next time someone gripes about our roads, our schools, and our well being...blame the fools who can't fill out a census form.
and lest you forget, it's illegal not to fill it out and we, the taxpayer, will spend even more money to have a bunch of people go door to door to door to get the forms from the people who haven't bothered to fill it out.
grr...can you tell this topic gets me riled up? It's disgusting that we have to have a multi-million dollar ad campaign to get people to send in their form...which helps them in the long run. it's nuts.
Ok I work @ the Census Bureau - Answers are as follows: Names are asked for to make sure we don't count you twice, race is for statistics and grant fundings, yes there is a phone # section - phone number is to contact you for further questions if there is a discrepency, age is for statistics and/or deciphering the difference between son/father with same name. Just fill it out. It helps.
I am shocked at so-called "intelligent" dumb-a$$eS who would thumb their noses as something as important as a national census. Just think: if everyone in my area completed their form correctly & on time, we could possibly be redistricted into a council district that isn't represented by Jim King or any of the other present council critters!
Anyway, in all that census money spent on advertising, I don't think I've ever heard them tell folks that it is FREE to mail them back (postage paid).
Regarding the "soiled" forms: I never would have imagined the level of disrespect for anything "governmental" that exists today. But...now I suspect it will worsen.
The Census is required by the Constitution. Therefore, whatever expense it entails is irrelevant. Also, we can't govern this big, fractious country without doing the Census.
Also, don't worry about throwing your form away. You'll be getting a visit from the Census takers before long. They'll get you. Bwahahahaha! :)
Strawberry Burns - DOB/KFI - in other words - Frontline for Anthrax / type my fingers to the bone LOL As far as blatant disrespect for the government - at this point - I've seen it all. I can't comment on what i've seen due to Title 13, however, we are uneducated in so many areas in government due to our lovely school systems lack of education, or people dont give a crap.. well they do, and that might be the problem. bwahaha
